Understanding Ceramic and Graphene Coatings

Think of Ceramic or Graphene coatings like your grandma's "ceramics shelf," as both are primarily derived from glass. Imagine a wax that lasts for years. These coatings are designed to enhance the color of your car's paint and provide long-lasting protection. They are extremely hydrophobic, durable, and create an additional physical layer between your paint and the elements. These coatings are warrantied and cure similarly to nail polish, using UV light.

Benefits of Ceramic Coatings

Ceramic coatings function like an ultra-durable wax. While synthetic sealants are a significant improvement over natural carnauba waxes, ceramics take protection to the next level. They are more durable, stronger, and incredibly hydrophobic. On a perfectly waxed car, water forms beads. With ceramics, water droplets can form little ball bearings that roll right off the surface, taking dirt and oils with them. This means your car gets a mini wash every time it rains. When you wash a ceramic-coated car with soap and water, grime and debris come off much more easily.

Installation Guidelines

To maximize the benefits and minimize costs, I recommend applying a ceramic coating as soon as possible. If you're considering adding a clear bra, make sure to install it before applying the ceramic coating. Ceramic creates a non-stick surface that prevents clear bra from adhering properly. If a clear bra is added after a ceramic coating, the ceramic will need to be polished off first, increasing the overall cost.

 

Rock Chip Protection

Contrary to popular belief, ceramic coatings do not protect against rock chips; that’s the job of a clear bra. My ceramic and graphene coating options vary based on the application surface (such as glass, plastic, or paint) and the length of the warranty (ranging from 1 to 8 years).
