Understanding Paint Protection Film (PPF)
Paint Protection Film (PPF), commonly known as a clear bra, is designed to add a defensive layer between your car's paint and various hazards. It helps preserve the rich color of your car and protects the finish from UV rays, scratches, bugs, scuffs, hail, oil, and road debris like rocks and sand.
What Is a Clear Bra?
Clear Bra is a thermoplastic, transparent, elastomeric polyurethane material applied to your car's painted surfaces to prevent dings, scratches, and chips. Essentially, it acts as a second skin for your car. This self-healing, long-lasting barrier is thin and flexible yet strong and durable.
What Does Self-Healing Mean?
Thanks to the material's properties, light scratches and swirl marks on the PPF disappear when heat is applied. The heat allows the polymers to "rearrange" themselves, eliminating the scuff or light scratch. Without PPF, these surface defects would require professional correction on the clear coat.
Areas Protected by Clear Bra
PPF can protect virtually every part of your vehicle, including bumpers, headlights, rocker panels, pillars, door edges, fenders, mirrors, the hood, rear wheel impact areas, and door handles. You can choose to protect specific parts, opt for a partial front application, a full front application, or a full car application.
Longevity of a Clear Bra
High-quality PPF is resistant to stains and discoloration and won't yellow from UV exposure. This feature can be further enhanced by applying a ceramic or graphene coating over the PPF. With edge seal technology, the film won't peel or separate, even at the edges, helping premium clear bras last up to ten years.
Is Clear Bra Removable?
One of the great features of PPF is its flexibility and ease of removal. The adhesive used bonds well with vehicle exteriors but won't become sticky or gooey during removal. However, once PPF is removed, it cannot be reused on any vehicle, including the one it was originally installed on.
Should You Get Clear Bra for Your New Car?
A better question might be, "Why wouldn't you protect your new car with a clear bra?" Protecting your vehicle with PPF helps maintain its value by keeping its exterior in pristine condition. Accidents and mishaps are inevitable, and PPF provides peace of mind against scratches, bugs, and sun damage. Preserving your car's value by encapsulating its shiny new paint in PPF ensures that when the time comes to trade in or sell, your car will command a higher price due to its well-maintained exterior. Don’t let bugs, people, or branches damage your vehicle’s paint – protect it with PPF as soon as possible.
