Benefits of tint
Understanding Tint Darkness
Tint darkness can be a bit confusing at first because it’s measured by the percentage of light that passes through the window. The lower the percentage, the darker the tint. For example, 100% tint means no tint at all, like clear aquarium glass, while 5% tint is extremely dark, almost like having black paint on your windows, making it very difficult to see through.
Colorado Tinting Laws
According to Colorado law, the darkest legal tint for side windows and the rear window is 27%. For the windshield, a tint strip (or "brow") is allowed up to 4 inches from the top. These regulations are designed for safety, but we are capable of meeting any tinting requests you have. While I can't officially recommend going beyond legal limits, many people, including some law enforcement officers, use darker tints on their personal vehicles without issues.
Tips for Interactions with Law Enforcement
If you have dark tint, please be considerate of law enforcement officers. When pulled over, roll down all your windows before the officer approaches. This makes their job easier and reduces stress, which can be beneficial for everyone involved.
Personal Recommendations and Considerations
Through personal experimentation with different tints on my vehicles, I've found some important considerations when choosing your tint level:
-
Visibility: Darker tints make it harder to see at night and in poor weather conditions.
-
Benefits: Darker tints offer more privacy, security, sun protection, heat reduction, and interior preservation.
-
Contrast: A very dark tint on the side windows can create a stark contrast with a clear windshield, potentially compromising your ability to check mirrors at night. In this case, consider a windshield tint to balance the visibility.
